Innocent Love

A 6 yr old boy was in the market with his 4 yr old sister. Suddenly the boy found that his sister was lagging behind. He stopped and looked back. His sister was standing in front of a toy shop and was watching something with great interest. The boy went back to her and asked, “Do you want something?” The sister pointed at the doll. The boy held her hand and like a responsible elder brother, gave that doll to her. The sister was very very happy… The shopkeeper was watching everything and getting amused to see the matur behaviour of the boy… Now the boy came to the counter and asked the shopkeeper, “What is the cost of this Doll, Sir? !” The shopkeeper was a cool man and had experienced the odds of life. So he asked the boy with a lot of love & affection, “Well, What can you pay? The boy took out all the shells that he had collected from sea shore from his pocket and gave them to the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper took the shells and started counting as ...

The Cobbler who also mends souls

There is a cobbler who sits across the street in front of my office building. Every day, I see that there is a stray dog who comes and sits with him as soon as he arrives at the place, and he feeds him biscuits and some times milk. The man goes about his work while the dog sits there and gives him company. One can feel that there is a connection between them and that unknown to everyone, they are having a conversation without a word being said. There is also food that he brings for birds, which he keeps at different places on the street pavement where he sits for his work. Many people stop by and ask him for directions, and he always guides them with a smile. Even if he doesn't get any business from them. If he sees a homeless person going by, he offers them water and food that he has brought for himself, and engages in conversations with them. One can see and feel the peace the conversations bring to them. I felt I had to go and meet him today. He smiled at me and said his name is...

Service of Mankind is Service to God

The term   “Service of mankind is service to God”  means that  selfless  service for the cause of humanity is as important as  worshiping to God. Love of mankind is in Vivekananda’s  opinion, the worship of God.  This is the gist of all worship is to be pure and to do well to others. A person who devotes his life for the betterment of the human race is loved by God. If there is any God,  he would rather want us to live not only for ourselves but for our fellowmen too. Great men knew this truth. Life to them was action. This is the service of others. A life lived for selfish gains, regardless of others needs, is worse than death. A bird or a beast collects food for itself and its young ones. It is some kind of work no doubt, but it is not that kind of work that man is expected to do. He is the roof and crown of creation and so he is supposed to live a larger life by applying himself to the service of humanity.

Presence of mind

A student of mine decided to apply for a job. Applicants were supposed to apply only online.  The fee to be paid in advance for General Candidates was Rs. 100.  For Reserved Category candidates, no fee was payable. Being from Reserved Catagory, he was exempted from paying Application Fee. He opened this organisation’s Website & started filling up the columns one after another. Being exempted from paying application fee,  he did not fill up columns connected with fee but when he tried to submit his application, the system will not accept. In spite of several repeated attempts, he was unable to submit his application.  He asked me if I could help. Although I am not computer savvy still I had a look at the online form & could read that “No Column Should Be Left Blank”. I made him take out his cheque book & fill in the columns: -Mode of Payment: Cheque No … -Date … -Bank Name … -Branch … -Application Fee Amt Paid 000 (In the last column I told him to write 00...

LIFE

Chalte Chalte Zindagi Once I watched a football match in a school playing ground. As I sat down, I asked a boy sitting next to me what the score was? With a smile, he replied, they are leading us 3-0. And I said, REALLY. That is very discouraging. 'Discouraged', the boy asked me with a puzzled look. Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle. I have confidence in the manager and the team, we shall definitely overcome.  Truly the match ended 5-4 in favour of boys team.  He waved me gently with a smile on his face. I was amazed at his confidence. As I got back home that night, his answer kept coming back to me. Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle. OUR LIFE IS ALSO LIKE A GAME.... Why should we be discouraged when life is still there. Why be discouraged when your final whistle has not been sounded.  The truth is that many people blow the final whistle themselves.... As long as life is there, nothing i...

Hormones for Happiness

Hormones which determine a human's happiness. As I sat in the park after my morning walk,  My wife came and slumped next to me. She had completed her 30-minute jog. We chatted for a while. She said she is not happy in life. I looked up at her in sheer disbelief since she seemed to have the best of everything in life. Why do you think so? I don't know. Everyone tells I have everything needed, but I am not happy.   Then I questioned myself, am I happy?  No,was my inner voice reply. Now, that was an eye-opener for me. I began my quest to understand the real cause of my unhappiness, I couldn't find one. I dug deeper, read articles, spoke to life coaches but nothing made sense. At last my doctor friend gave me the answer which put all my questions and doubts to rest. I implemented those and will say I am  a lot happier person. The doctor said there are four hormones which determine a human's happiness - 1. Endorphins 2. Dopamine 3. Serotonin 4. Oxytocin It is ...

HealthProblems

Many people tend to sit in front of their computers for long hours without taking a break. That could lead to numerous health problems, including chronic diseases like obesity, and joint issues especially in the back, neck, spine which affects overall strength. Blame it on the pandemic or otherwise, “leading an inactive lifestyle can lead to poor quality of life, and increased morbidity and mortality rates”. According to Heart Research Institute (HRI), global recommendations for adults are to take part in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity per week, as well as muscle-strengthening activities on two or more days per week. Those who do not get the recommended level of regular physical activity are considered ‘inactive’, as they experience a lack of exercise and movement. As per HRI, the body and its systems – including the heart and cardiovascular system – are built to work more effectively when upright. Inactivity, howe...

HealthyEatingTips

We all need a balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals in our diets to sustain a healthy body. You don’t need to eliminate certain categories of food from your diet, but rather select the healthiest options from each category. Protein  gives you the energy to get up and go—and keep going—while also supporting mood and cognitive function. Too much protein can be harmful to people with kidney disease, but the latest research suggests that many of us need more high-quality protein, especially as we age. That doesn’t mean you have to eat more animal products—a variety of plant-based sources of protein each day can ensure your body gets all the essential protein it needs. Fat . Not all fat is the same. While bad fats can wreck your diet and increase your risk of certain diseases, good fats protect your brain and heart. In fact, healthy fats—such as omega-3s—are vital to your physical and emotional health. Including more healthy fat in your diet can hel...
